ASOPRS Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Fellowship (Even Year)
This program provides comprehensive, hands-on training in all aspects of ophthalmic plastic surgery, including eyelid, orbit, lacrimal, and cosmetic surgery. In addition, the fellow will be actively involved in the residency training program, working alongside and directly supervising residents. Clinical research and other scholarly activities are also an important part of the program.
Upon successful completion of the two-year fellowship, the fellow will be eligible to apply for admission to ASOPRS, submit a thesis, and then sit for the ASOPRS written and oral examinations. It is expected that the fellow will pursue ASOPRS membership.

Program Details
Working closely with Dr. Freitag and other oculoplastic faculty, fellows gain experience in a wide variety of surgical procedures. Fellows will also interact with physicians in a variety of other specialties, including otolaryngology, dermatology, Mohs surgery, neuroradiology, plastic surgery, and ophthalmic pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital and other affiliated facilities.
The fellowship’s primary locations include Mass Eye and Ear and the VA Boston Healthcare System in Jamaica Plain. The VA is a busy, regional referral center for all of New England, and the residents who staff it are from Mass Eye and Ear and Boston University. Mass Eye and Ear fellows are the only oculoplastic surgery fellows that participate in VA activities.
The fellow will also spend an average of one day per week for six months of the year in surgery with Dr. Migliori at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Dr. Migliori possesses an excellent scope of knowledge of cosmetic procedures and will provide additional training in all areas of oculoplastics. The commute time from Boston to Providence is one hour.
Eligibility
All applicants must be eligible to obtain a full medical license per the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine

Mass Eye and Ear has extensive formal didactics, which include weekly Grand Rounds, and numerous courses and conferences. A 60% attendance rate or higher must be achieved at Grand Rounds as a condition of receiving a certificate.
Each fellow must participate at least once in the Fellows’ Course, which involves working with faculty to help prepare a publishable review manuscript.
The fellow will also participate in oculoplastics conferences, journal clubs, the annual suture course, orbital dissection course, orbital fracture course, and other Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Service activities.
